Happy Tails: Adoptions

Angel was adopted by Sabrina and joins Weej in forever home happiness.

Gio was adopted by Kim and Becky. He joins Tara. He's already lost about half a pound from all the walks and fun he's been having!

Trinity, now Gracie, was adopted by Tovi. She loves being an only dog and gets lots of love and attention. She's got great potty habits and is very smart. She's learned to ring the bell to let her new mom know she needs to go outside.

Olivia was adopted by Derick and Tessa. They practically live at Mud Bay these days and can't believe how lucky they are to have found this wonderful little girl. They've renamed her "Olive". This is a photo of Olive when she first came into rescue with her broken leg. She's all healed up and loves to run, run, run all the time.

The New Crew

Four new IGs have come into Rescue: Philadelphia (or "Phil" as he likes to be called) (8 years old) and his pal, Loomis (7 years) are settling into their foster homes; Diego (10 years old), and his foster brothers are having a ball, and little 2 year old Auksmi arrived yesterday and will join her foster family over the weekend.

Check out Phil's ears!

Home Visit to Bremerton

Home Visit to Bremerton

JayJ, Iggy Rescue Ambassador, visited Lucy in Bremerton, to determine whether Lucy is ready for a sister. The house is geared toward Lucy, whose tail wagged for our entire visit. Jay approved of Lucy’s toys and chewies. This will be a great home for an iggy who likes chewies, wants to be the center of attention and likes a lake view.

Here's a view from the ferry on the way home. JayJ thinks those orange things are giant mechanical iggies!

At the Dog Park

Jay and Blaze played at Magnuson Park on Sunday. They stayed in their cars when finished playing. Their mothers had lunch at the soup restaurant. Although they were not in the same car, Blaze and Jay sent secret, unspoken messages and are planning another playdate soon.

Gio Has Been Adopted!

Gio was adopted today on his 8th birthday! He joins Tara, who is 10 years old. The Hoods adopted Gio. The Eberts, his foster home will miss him terribly because he is so cute and funny.

Important: Name Change from Marley to Marilinda

Please note that Foster Marley has gone through a name change. The Espey pack now calls her “Marilinda” (formal name) or "Mari" for short. She has also gone through a bit of a personality change from reticent to standing her own ground. We think that perhaps Letta and Foster Olivia have something to do with that.

Angel!

The Italian Greyhound Rescue van picked up Angel today. JayJ was on hand as Iggy ambassador, calming down little Angel and showing her where the best spots were for doing her business. She is with Heather, Iggy Ellie May, Iggy Ruthie and their certified service dog, an Akida, as a Foster now. Heather had made chicken during the day and had saved the broth and some chicken bits which would be used as a topper for kibble for dinner tonight. Yum!

The Alice Espey Pack (Letta, Maddie and Fosters Olivia and Marley)

This Pack can be seen out on walks and at meetups.

Permanent Ig Letta is doing a little better. She lost her good friend Bertie a month ago and has been sad and is not particularly impressed with the Fosters.

Permanent Ig Maddie says hello and wants you to know that she would like to escape from wherever you put her.

Foster Olivia now has her cast off. She jumps around on 3 legs at times because the broken leg simply became a ghost to her. Rambunctious, she has learned how to express her love calmly but always looks a little like a pressure cooker. There is nothing that she wants more to do than to hug you and lick your face.

New Foster Marley is a beautiful red fawn girl who was taught to dance. Marley can also shake hands. Marley learned both of these skills in her earlier home. She is a little hand shy so Alice works with her on that.

All Iggy Alert: Vashon Island Meetup on Saturday, October 1

The Briskmans are hosting another Vashon Island Meetup on Saturday, October 1. Iggys, make sure your humans add that to their calendars. Details to follow!
New Meet Up Site at NOAH

Many iggys attended the August Meetup at the NOAH site in Stanwood, hosted by human Arthur Ebert. The offleash dogpark area is exceptional. We’ll certainly be looking forward to more meet ups there.

Blue’s Adoption!

Blue was adopted to the Briskmans on Vashon Island, as planned. He gets along well with his new sister, Mia, and especially his new cousin, Emerson. Blue will summer on Vashon Island and winter in Arizona. He loves his yard and his new humans. Rescue is happy that Blue has settled into such a good Forever Home.

Foster News

Olivia got her cast off last week and attended the big Mag meetup on 8/28.

Romey was adopted by an Arlington family. His new family adores him.

Isabelle is happy in her new adoptive home. She has a fantastic backyard!

Duke was adopted and now lives east of the mountains. He is living with Flicka and Red.

Dixie and Angel, both from Alaska, flew to Seattle last week and have been adopted.

In National News

Zulu, who lives in Colorado, broke a leg, but is doing very well.

Baucelli came all the way from Yakima and has been adopted by Monica and Doug.

Linus & Lusi

Ask either Lusi or Linus how their Forever Home life is and you will hear that they have hit the mother lode. They live in a beautiful home with two lovely sphinx cats who remind them a bit of themselves.

They both had original human families whose schedules had changed to the point where there was not enough time for the best care of an italian greyhound. As sad as each home was to turn their Ig over to Rescue, they thought about what was best for the Iggy and called Rescue.

Lusi, an extremely beautiful white Italian Greyhound, arrived in her Forever Home first and although the food was great and she was doing well, she seemed sad at times. When Linus arrived several months later, Lusi perked right up and taught him the ropes.

Linus is a funny little guy who causes a bit of trouble every once in awhile. He was sentenced to a belly band for some of this trouble, but he doesn’t mind because everything else is going so great. He tends to dive off of the back of the couch when the cats have finished their meals and licks clean the bowls. He knows whatever is left in a bowl will be delicious and nutritious because his human father makes pet food from scratch.

Both Lusi and Linus are very well-dressed. Their human mother designs and sews italian greyhound coats that are, by the way, available for purchase. Linus models one of the coats below. What a handsome guy! And what a great coat!

Ellie Mae Will Attend the Vashon Island Meet-up

Extremely popular and lovely Iggy Ellie Mae will attend the Saturday Vashon Island Meetup. Jay is glad he had a bath and a manicure now that he hears that this looker will attend. Ellie Mae may meet potential adoptors tomorrow. How could a day get any better than that?

Ellie Mae is a 6 year old who knows basic commands such as “sit” and “stay”. She is smart and learns quickly. She walks when on leash and enjoys exercise. She likes to play with other Iggies and she’ll sure have that opportunity tomorrow.

At last count approximately 35 dogs will attend the Vashon Island Meetup.

Late-breaking Iggy Rescue News

Accidental Strangulation Iggy Doing Well
The Iggy who was "accidentally" strangled and then turned over to Rescue is doing very well. Gillian is now in a Foster home where she is happy and sassy. She is a big hit with her Foster siblings. She poses for pictures!

Olivia’s Leg is Mending

Olivia, sometimes called “Livvy Livewire”, is the life of the pack party as her leg heals. Her cast has been changed but she still bonks her pack siblings on the head. She is a ball of energy and wants to run, but still has to remain quiet. The vet says her leg is healing nicely. Hang on, Olivia!

Upcoming News (the excitement builds):
Blue will be adopted this week!
Duke will be adopted in 2 weeks!

JayJ Gets a Bath and a Report on Foster Bug

JayJ Gets a Bath
In anticipation of the Vashon Island meetup on Saturday, JayJ had a bath today at Auntie Sarah’s. He smells like shampoo and is especially shiny and handsome. As it turns out, Emerson’s and Izzy’s mother Gigi will not be in attendance but we think a reunion between Emerson and Izzy will be something to see. Gigi had particularly well-tempered puppies so they will play nicely together, unlike JayJ and Neville, who are littermates and dislike each other to the point where they have had to be separated. Neville has quite a way with the girls and is always on the pickup while JayJ stands around being handsome. Although they have slightly different calling cards, women iggies flock to them.

Foster Bug
The big news is Foster Iggy Bug who, although he had a boo-boo this week, is home and doing well. Bug visited the Vet earlier this week and has either a muscle strain or bruise. He’s so popular at his foster home, who provided us with the picture below. He’s been at his foster home for almost a year and a half (!). Bug’s Foster Mom says that they have experienced such joy watching Bug, a formerly aloof, confused and grumpy dog “come into his own iggy-dom.” His favorite pastime now is to watch movies with his Foster Dad (see photo above).

A Year in the Life of Italian Greyhound Rescue: The Vashon Island Meetup is Coming Up!

This Saturday we all take the big boat to a fenced backyard on Vashon Island. About 20 iggies, at last count, will run run run, seeing old friends, making new friends, and stealing food from the table. JayJ, an iggy Rescue representative, had a manicure at Northeast Vet today so that he would look as handsome as possible for the upcoming gala. He and Blaze, an iggy who bounds through the dog park with a green cigar in his mouth, are planning their tricks and going over the menu. They will safely ride in crates in the back of a Highlander, plotting and planning and remembering other tables they swiped food from.

The Vashon Island iggies are doing well. Mia wintered in Arizona and we will hear how it is to see the sun in November and if the accommodations are to her liking. Emerson, rescued from a home where he was left outside, has warmed up now that he stays inside on cold days or is tucked into one of his beautiful new coats before the door opens. Blue, a favorite with Rescue, will be formally adopted on Saturday by our Vashon Island hosts.

We don’t know if Bertie will come. He’s a little older and not amused by the bouncy, leaping antics of the younger generation. We hope that Gino will come and that Gino and JayJ don’t get into the political argument that caused so much trouble at Thanksgiving. Emerson’s mother Gigi is coming as is Emerson’s sister, Izzy, who came into Rescue a couple of months ago. Millie and Mouse are coming and introducing us to their foster Romey, who came into Rescue a couple of months ago. Calvin, Tess and Lucy are coming. You know, Lucy was to be fostered in her current *permanent* home, but she took to helping out with Tess, who had a difficult puppyhood, and Lucy became a permanent part of the family.

Stay tuned for news of the meetup!
